Three Family Fun Workshops For Under $10 At Hybrid World Adelaide

Make your own robot, learn to code a smartphone game and have fun with STEM.

On the weekend of 21 – 22 July, the Adelaide Convention Centre will come alive with Hybrid World Adelaide’s Interactive Events. Entry is free and packed with activities for kids and adults curious about technology to experience virtual reality, drone-racing, combat robots and more.

If you want to get even more hands-on, there’s a selection of affordable workshops for the whole family. Here are three for under $10 we think are ace!

Hackerspace Adelaide

In these hour-long workshops, children and adults will be guided through the assembly of their very own FHTBot to take home and play with. There is no age limit if children are accompanied by an adult.

The FHTbot is a fun and educational robot that has been designed to spark public interest in robotics, electronics, programming, digital manufacturing and the Internet Of Things (IOT). Co-created by Hackerspace Adelaide and Flinders University, the FHTbot can be controlled and programmed with most Wi-Fi enabled devices.

Code Camp

Want to create your own iPhone App to share with friends? You can at these one hour workshops from Code Camp.

You’ll use drag and drop coding to create your own 2D game for iPhone, Android
and the web. With hundreds of graphics to choose from you can design your own game characters and levels plus learn basic coding skills at the same time.

The workshops are suitable for kids aged 8 and up, or adults with a sense of fun! No prior coding experience is required.

Have fun with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) at these 45-minute workshops hosted by STEMplay SA. It’s a new Adelaide-based venture specialising in STEM activation and public outreach, early learning, and professional development.

STEMplay SA knows how to engage the whole family in the wonder of the thinking behind STEM and the modern world. Parents and teachers call it imagination, creativity, problem solving and teamwork. Your kids know better. They just call it play.
