He’s coming to Hybrid World Adelaide to teach aspiring media experts the tricks of the trade.
When it comes to the media industry, Marc Fennell is the kind of person who’s achieved so much it’s tricky to know where to start. Whether your favourite work by him is his hosting gig on The Feed, his movie reviews or podcasts, he’s had an undeniable impact on Australia’s media landscape. And he’s coming to Hybrid World Adelaide!
Marc will host two workshops: one on podcasting, and the other on interviewing. Here are three reasons you’ll want to learn key media skills from Marc.
His interviewing skills
In his role at The Feed, Marc has interviewed everyone from Al Gore to Tom Cruise, and he’s got an incredible ability to jump from serious, political topics to lighthearted ones in the blink of an eye.
Recently, he’s interviewed actors John Boyega and Jessica Chastain, director Steven Spielberg, and musicians Liam Gallagher and Billie Eilish.
He’s an avid podcaster
Each week on Download This Show, Marc explores the world of technology, with a focus on social media, digital culture and consumer electronics.
And that’s not the only podcasting he’s done. He hosted a season of It’s A Long Story, a podcast from Sydney Opera House about people who shape our culture. On it, he interviewed people including North Korean defector Yeonmi Park; the national co-chair of the Women’s March on Washington, Tamika Mallory; and Indian Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.
He’s a film expert
Marc has been reviewing films for some time, and his work appears to be driven by a genuine enthusiasm for all things cinema: from art-house to blockbusters, he doesn’t discriminate. Known as ‘that movie guy’ on triple j for eleven years, when he finally left the role early last year it was major news.
Always humorous, he wrote about his last night in the role: “If I were producing this scene, it would need some nostalgic, swelling emotionally manipulative play-off music.”
He’s also published books about movies, including 2015’s Planet According to the Movies.
