ADELAIDE, 31 AUGUST 2017: Famed roboticist and “maverick of android science” Japan’s Hiroshi Ishiguro will talk about a robotic society and the future at Hybrid World Adelaide this October.
Headlining the inaugural Hybrid World Adelaide conference – the industry component of the ground-breaking digital technology festival – Professor Ishiguro will join speakers from around the world, the country and South Australia to discuss the impact of technology today, tomorrow and beyond.
The opening night program will feature a keynote presentation from roboticist Professor Ishiguro (Japan), Director of the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory at Osaka University, who is famed for creating astonishing humanoid robots that can interact with people and respond to stimuli. His work includes a life-like robot of himself.
Professor Ishiguro will discuss what a robotic society will look like, introducing various androids that are already at work in our daily lives.
Los Angeles-based digital pioneer and HWA Creative Director, Robert Tercek said: “We are now only a matter of weeks away from the launch of Hybrid World Adelaide and we are thrilled to have such a maverick of android science headline this event.
“Robotics, automation and artificial intelligence are the building blocks of a complete transformation that will affect dozens of industries including manufacturing, agriculture, health care, transportation and even services businesses like law and consulting. Ultimately, they will transform society. That’s why it is vitally important to have Professor Ishiguro here in South Australia, sharing his forecast of robotic society.”
Taking place at the Tonsley Innovation District in Adelaide on Wednesday 4 October, Hybrid World Adelaide will open with a showcase of innovation from digital technology focused organisations and individuals.
Ten key industry leaders will enlighten hundreds of delegates in a rapid-fire Hybrid World Adelaide Spotlight session about preparing for the future, discussing everything from e-sports and cyborgs, to wine-making and medical devices.
The ticketed opening event will also have speakers from businesses including Adelaide Football Club and Treasury Wine Estates, as well as BioFoundry – Australia’s first community lab for citizen scientists. Each of the ten selected speakers will give a snapshot of the challenges they predict and the solutions they’re planning, with insights into how the businesses are saying, “Hello Future” – the mantra underpinning Hybrid World Adelaide.
Opening night will run from 3pm to 8.30pm, and will be officially opened by the South Australia Premier, Jay Weatherill. Following the presentations, delegates are welcome to stay and enjoy the HWA Opening Night party with food, drinks and music.
Single tickets to opening night only are on sale now for $75.
Hybrid World Adelaide has received grant funding from the Australia-Japan Foundation of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for Professor Ishiguro’s visit.
